What is Normal?

In the book “The Gene” by Siddhartha Mukherjee, he states that “normalcy is the antithesis of evolution.”  Human beings perceive themselves as “evolved,” yet they spend an inordinate amount of time trying to convince others to think, act and live within their norm, counter to evolution.

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

You think you have seen it all, then the racoon shows up.
I am old and wise enough to know what I do not know.  But, when it comes to the upkeep of a house, I thought I had seen it all.

All Alone

Being alone can be both comforting and frightening, depending on the circumstances of the moment.  Some people seek solitude, while others gravitate toward human interaction.  Having moments of solitude after a frenetic period of contact can be refreshing.

Make Something From Nothing

If in the past you asked an author, artist or musician what it is like to sit in front of a blank piece of paper or canvas, you would have gotten a range of answers from sheer terror to happy exhilaration.

Addicted to Hyperbole

Hyperbole is defined as “deliberate exaggeration, not meant to be taken literally.” Not taking something literally is easier said than done, especially when the amount of hyperbole thrown at us each day can be overwhelming and all-consuming.

Aretha Franklin famously sang about her desire to get some respect from her man. Just a little bit of respect. She was not asking for love or money, just respect. What an interesting baseline for a relationship. Or Rodney Dangerfield seeking respect from everyone and anyone?  No more needs to be said.
